Don’t forget that if you failed a lab, you can come to my office (5469) and show me it to pass.
But I forgot that Monday is a holiday! So the time for showing me your lab will be 1-3pm on Tuesday the 7th. If you can’t come at this time for whatever reason, please email me and we can arrange something.

If you miss the final deadline for a lab, don’t panic! You have two options:

  • You may be able to get a small deadline extension. It’s Alexander who decides this, so ask him during a lab session.

  • You can pass the lab by showing it to me after the course is finished. See the labs page for details.

I’ve booked four consultation times!
You can come to ES61 between 10-12 any of the following days and I’ll be there to answer questions:

  • Monday 9th May

  • Thursday 12th May

  • Thursday 19th May

  • Monday 23rd May

There’s no plan for what we’ll do so please come with questions. For example, you may want to try the exercises or old exam questions, but anything goes.

I swapped the order of lab 2 and 3 to match the course schedule! Be careful if you already started one of them.

The stock exchange lab is now up! It’s about heaps, so you should be able to start working on it already.

Two nice sites for visualising data structures: VisuAlgo, Data Structure Visualizations.

I put up a bit of information about what stuff from the Sedgewick book is in the course, for those who have that. (We don’t follow it, since there is no course book, but there is quite a lot of overlap.)

Last time we didn’t quite get to the end of the complexity lecture, but I think we covered the most important stuff. I will move on to sorting algorithms on Wednesday, but you may want to read the lecture notes to help you do the hand-in.
Also, lots of new stuff on the website:

  • The second lab is now up and I’ve picked some preliminary deadlines. You can also now submit to Fire.

  • The course representatives are now listed at the bottom of this page.

  • I’ve written down what I expect to cover in each lecture. This might change though.

  • The resources page now has a link to a Haskell compendium of data structures which you might find useful.

I’ve put up the slides from the first lecture. Note that the lecture tomorrow is in EL41!

Just a reminder that the first lecture will be at 13:15 on Tuesday the 22nd of March, room EA.

Hello! I’ve put up a very bare version of the website. I’ll add more stuff in the near future.
The first lecture will be on Tuesday the 22nd of March, 13:15-15:00 in EA. You can find the full schedule on TimeEdit.

Course organisation

Lecturer

Nick Smallbone <nicsma@chalmers.se>. You can find me in room 5469 much of the time.

Course assistant

Alexander Sjösten <sjosten@chalmers.se>.

Course representatives

Aleksandar Babunovic <gusbabal@student.gu.se>, Anders Christiansson <guschranh@student.gu.se> and Robin Åstedt <robin.astedt@gmail.com>.

To pass the course you must pass a written exam and also pass the labs. Ideally you should do the labs in pairs but it is allowed to do them alone if you want to. There are also optional exercises you can do.

You can find some helpful resources here.
