Introduction to Mathematical Statistics and Bioinformatics (2010/2011)

Bioinformatics part

This page contains links to materials relating to the lectures and practicals arranged by Graham Kemp. Further information about the course is given on the main course web page.

Practicals

Each student should attend for 4 hours on one afternoon. For 2 hours you will work on the Structural Bioinformatics exercises and for the other 2 hours you will work on the Sequence Bioinformatics exercises.

Please select the practical session you want to attend using this poll.

Only one room (D3) will be used for the practical sessions on Tuesday 30 November 2010. The "Structural Bioinformatics" exercise will be from 13:15 to 15:00, and the "Sequence Alignment" exercise will be from 15:15 to 17:00.

Study suggestions

The exam question(s) on bioinformatics will be based on material covered in the lectures and/or practical. There is a web page for each of the bioinformatics lectures, listing the main topics covered in the lectures and giving links to supplementary material. I do not expect you to read all of the supplementary material in detail. However, I recommend that you look at these linked pages since they will refresh your memory of items featured in the lectures that are not mentioned, or mentioned only in outline, in the lecture handouts.

Further study

There is a 7.5 credit course on Structural Bioinformatics in period 3.
