The development of computer related artifacts have given the automotiveindustry a new area to develop. Telematics is the collective term for use ofinformation technology and wireless communications in vehicles. The problemof mixing these two areas is, among others, to maintain the safety while driving.This study investigates what kind of information, entertainment andcommunication system people want in their future car (ten years from now). Themethods used to collect data have mainly been interviews with professionaldrivers, diary writing for commuters and a scenario session for creating severalpossible future worlds. The outcome from the data collection has resulted inseveral design concepts. These concepts show ideas of how to interact withcomputer artifacts while driving as well as how to present correct informationdepending on traffic situation. All the concepts are ideas with the intention toinspire Mitsubishi Electric Automotive to develop new information, entertainmentand communication system for the future vehicles.
