In this master thesis a number of concepts has been developed in order to explore how
to combine textiles and Computational technology from an interaction designers point
of view. In order to get a feeling for what a product combining these two materials
would look like and how it would behave we searched for inspiration and generated
different design suggestions. We have been using various methods and experiments and
a number of conceptual design suggestions are the result.
In the beginning of the design process we were gathering knowledge and inspiration.
One method used was to visite shops. There we looked for inspiration in existing
products. We also participated in workshops and voluntered at a conference.
Considering the large amount of design suggestions that were to be produced we chosed
to work with concepts. It helped us to limit a rather large design room and it also
functioned as inspiration. After coming up with the design suggestions we selected a
couple of the materials that we had come across in the previous fase in order to focus
on these in the experiments that followed. We made the experiments in order to get a
feeling for the materials and to see if they behaved the way that we expected them to.
This part of the design process gave us lots of knowledge, inspiration and showed us
new possibilities.
Our work has been mainly conceptual. It has not been our goal to produce commercial
products but to make people think and reflect. We wanted to explore different ways to
combine Computational technology and textiles and see what exiting new things that
can be generated from the combination of these two materials.
The report is written in Swedish.
