We encounter a material that takes many different shapes when we use computer technology everyday. Since you don't have to be an expert on computers to use them, programmers, product designers, graphical designers, technicians etc. have decided what you will encounter, by the decision they designed your view, your emotions and your actions. As an interaction designer you don't only design tools for usage, physical products or graphic user interfaces, you design a way to explain the material and what the users will believe, therefore you should be aware of what you convey, and which myths you spread or create. For your help you have computer technology to use as a design material and the purpose of this thesis is to gain a deeper understanding of computer technology as that kind of design material. This is done by creating mostly conceptual design examples that on one hand explore myths we have about the digital material, on the other explore how we can design myths when we design for more enriched interaction. The design examples address myths concerning software and hardware, interfaces, usage situations and mental models, a few are originated in metaphors. Some myths are created by technicians, programmers or designers, some exist due to physical laws, some created deliberately, some not. The design examples and underlying theory are presented in the thesis.
The thesis is written in Swedish.
