Aim
This course is co-arranged with students and teachers from the Human-Technology Interaction Master Program in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. It has three aims. Firstly it is a great opportunity to establish contacts with students and teachers from Eindhoven, aiming to widen everyone’s view on what interaction design is, and how it can be carried out. Secondly, it aims to let students explore notions of aesthetics in combination with persuasive technology in a longer project. Thirdly, it aims to give students experience in working independently in an international project, where most of the communication is carried out online. Learning outcomes
After completion of this course, the student should be able to
- Design with a focus on persuasive technology
- Design with a focus on aesthetics and consistency
- Support design work with literature studies and/or tests
- Present and motivate a design
- Work in an international project, partly run online
Content
The course is highly practical. The students will be given a few introductory lectures and perhaps a few exercises covering the course's main topics: persuasive technology and aesthetics of interaction. The main part of the course consists of carrying out a design project in collaboration with other students. Due to the differences between the two educations it becomes important for the students to share knowledge and experiences with each others.
Organisation
This course is co-arranged by the Interaction design Collegium at Chalmers Univeristy of Technology and the Human-Technology Interaction group at TU Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Thanks to this, part of the course will be run in Eindhoven, part in Gothenburg and part online. All traveling expenses are covered by funding. Students will work in groups of ca four students. The aim is to have at least two students from Gothenburg and at least two students from Eindhoven in each group. All students will meet during the course introduction, which is when the groups are formed, and at the end, to finish off their designs. The course will be given in English.
Literature
A collection of relevant research papers.
Examination
A project plus a written report.
