WELCOME...

...to Chalmers Interaction Design Challenge; an international course and design competition on interaction aesthetics and persuasive technology

Interaction Design Collegium proudly presents the IMPACT-funded course Chalmers Interaction Design Challenge! (ChIC). The course -which is also a design contest - is co-arranged with the Human Technology Interaction group at The Technical University of Eindhoven, and thus features international collaboration for both students and teachers.

NEWS
2009-09-24 updated the schedule with deadlines. Also, you can noe download the description of all the deliverables.

2009-09-12: The visiting week is almost over! Here, you can download most of the lectures:
Jaap's lecture on Persuasive Technology
Sus' lecture on working in groups
Andreas' lecture on ethics

2009-09-12 Added deliverable for next Friday, the group contract! In the contract, you must all agree upon the process for making decisions, and state what will happen if someone does not do their part of the work. We've added this deliverable because we think it is necesary for you to discuss these things (especially the latter matter) openly.

The Course
ChIC is a course on Aesthetic Interaction Design and Persuasive Technology. This course will introduce students to these topics, and students will come up with and develop their designs that unite both topics. Students will work in groups of ca four students. The aim is to have at least two students from Gothenburg and at least two students from Eindhoven in each group. All students will meet at the beginning of the course, when the groups are formed, and at the end, to finish off their designs. This means that part of the course takes part in Eindhoven, and part of it in Gothenburg. Costs for travel and accommodation are paid for by IMPACT.

The Universities
Both TU/e in Eindhoven and Chalmers in Gothenburg have research groups running an education. However, the Chalmers' group has a strong focus on design within interaction design, especially aspects like ubiquitous computing and game design. In Eindhoven, the specialties are instead psychology and human-computer-interaction-aspects like testing, pre studies, data analysis etc. We are very inspired by these differences; we know they will result in some culture clashes, but we also think that we can learn a lot from each others' way of approaching our joint subjects.

The Prize
As the course name suggests, this is not only a course but also a challenge, a design competition. At the end of the course, each group present their design. The four members of the group that have made the best design win a prize. The sum isn't fixed yet, due to tax issues and other rules yet to be deciphered, but should land between 7000 and 10 000 SEK (ca 700 - 1000 Euro) to each group member.

Prerequisites
The course is open for present or former interaction design master students at Chalmers and University of Gothenburg respectively. The course is also open for second year MA students at TU Eindhoven if they are registered for the HTI Master, and have completed the design track.
