Some of the information on this page is out of date. I have been working on a rewrite of netciv, which is in CVS as netciv2, however, I am currently not working on netciv at all. If you are looking for an interesting java project, let me know. If you just want to play a free (as in beer and speech) strategy game, I recommend Freeciv.
The objective of the Netciv project is to create an open-source java multiplayer implementation of the classic strategy game Civilization II. The project was started by Bjorn Bringert and is developed as a collaborative open source project, see the SourceForge project page for more information.
Netciv is still in its infancy, but it is already playable. Here's a screendump. Some of the current features include:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.netciv.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/netciv login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.netciv.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/netciv co netciv
sounds
subdirectory.
Netciv is distributed under the GNU Public Licence.
